I'm a student and software developer based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

About Me

Kyle Schnitzer
I am a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in computer science. I am a skilled web developer and C++ programmer. Through pursuing classes focused on entrepreneurship, I've developed an interest in the fast-paced, innovative culture of startups. I love challenges and I am quick to learn and adapt. Currently, you'll find me in Ann Arbor hanging out and working as a programmer for the Lomize Research Group!
Outside of programming, I love to travel, read, run, hike, camp, bake, play video games, listen to music, play guitar, and 3D model with CAD software. In addition, I help to lead Ten for Men, a youth group for students at my former high school.

Shark Tank is easily one of my favorite TV shows.
I've ran the Detroit Free Press marathon before, and I'm currently training with hopes to qualify for Boston!
The header image is from a hiking trip with my roommates to Mount Bierstadt, one of the 14,000+ foot peaks in the beautiful state of Colorado!

    Ten for Men is a youth group I've been attending since my freshman year of high school. In my junior year of high school, I became a leader of the group. This position involves scheduling and structuring meetings and events, organizing and facilitating discussions, and being a mentor to the high schoolers in the group.

    I worked with client teams to design multiple task schedulers to improve performance in low-latency environments. I then implemented these task schedulers and benchmarked them, and presented my findings.

  • Software Engineering Intern

    I collaborated with senior engineers and the customer support team to design and develop a setup wizard page and a diagnostics page for Epsilon's flagship product. These projects streamlined the webapp's setup and diagnostic experiences, making it much more user-friendly. The code was shipped to production and recieved positive customer feedback.

Projects

A small creative project I hacked together in a few hours. This is a countdown for my university church's spring break trip. This was fun to make, and even involved a little bit of video editing to get the background video to loop.

I built this website almost entirely from scratch during my time in college. It doubles as a means to improve my web development skills and a portfolio of my work. This is a constant work in progress, expanding as I gain more experience.

Currently under development. This is a Flutter app that allows users to input a piece of text and black out words to create a blackout poem. I've found that flutter is an incredibly fun and intuitive framework to use and I plan to make more use of it in the future.

In EECS 280, EECS 281, EECS 370, and EECS 482, I developed complex C/C++ projects in a Linux development environment. GDB was used to debug. C++ projects include a thread library, a network file system, a memory pager, the Traveling Salesperson Problem, a website backend, a machine learning algorithm, a euchre simulator, and an image resizer. C projects include a program assembler/linker and processor pipeline/cache simulators. Code is private due to school honor code. Demonstrations are available upon request.

In EECS 491, I iteratively developed a distributed, sharded, fault-tolerant key-value service using the Paxos consensus algorithm. This project is similar to the core of many real-world distributed systems. Code is private due to school honor code. Demonstrations are available upon request.
